2009 is a great opportunity for the Church in this country to do many things - to celebrate children in the life of the church, to be challenged into new activity, new attitudes, new understanding and to raise awareness of issues affecting children today, in the same spirit of the origninal UNICEF year of the child. In York we have a 'Commitment' to children and young people and this will drive all that we do next year. Watch this space as they say, but we are planning not just celebrations, but also training programmes, parish audits, strategic activities and we hope re-freshing a vision for children and young people coming to know Jesus for themselves and contributing to the whole life of the church. What are you doing?

In terms of 'action' the GenR8 schools teams in Cambs are taking the 'year of the child' theme for our summer tour...30min 'presentation in approx 100 primary schools. Includes puppets, song, bible story (The little boy and feeding of 5000) and drama based on Robert Raikes and how Sunday schools started.

In our church we did a bit of a rethink on children a few years agom with the Christian Life and Children studies. 2009 is a good year for a bit of a refresher! All the children did the MY SAY questionnaire. Deacons and the church meeting heard back and now we're wondering how/what to feedback to the children. We're thinking about planning a Family Fun Day in the autumn. We watched the Aim Lower vid. in a leaders' meeting and we're trying to give some kids/teens responsibilities in the church. Also relaunching a prayer supporter scheme for each child and children's worker. Still have a need for more leaders... any more ideas, anyone?

What did anyone else do? How can we round the year off?
