I'm currently working towards establishing a nationwide network that will link people looking for "apprenticeship" style training in childrens' work with churches or organizations that offer places. If you think this is something that your church or organization would consider being part of could you drop me an email at [e-mail]
Still in the beginning stages so I'm just trying to build up a first list of organizations or churches. Really want to encourage a model of training and equipping childrens workers gradually rather than throwing them in at the deep end from the beginning. I want for it to be free to advertise on the network as well so that organizations aren't put off.

Dave Gidney here

I am the course director for Children Worldwide's apprenticeship based course in children's work called Future Buidlers

The student comes for one, two or even three years, is placed with an experiencd chidlrens worker usually in a church setting, and works alongside them. On top of that, the students are sent out in teams across the country (and also overseas) to serve the church alongside other experienced chidlrens workers in different settings like Spring Harvest, new Word Alive, and residential camps. The student also does two days a week teaching, in chidlrens work issues, and also theology. That is so the worker has a good theological base from which to minister. The theology is offered as part of mainstream courses from an established Bible College.

The student can complete studies in anything from a certificate from Chidlren Worldwide in chidlrens ministry, to a full degree in Applied theology, all on this same basis, two half days in college, two half days studying, and the rest on the job with an experienced childrens worker.

This sounds a fantastic idea. I think one of the biggest struggles is that churches are often working with teams of volunteers who all have full time jobs, families etc. I am praying through how we can equip these people properly because they are fantastic servants and it would be great to invest something into them.
