Mike just finished reading your project, the findings do not surprise me, both being a teacher and working with children from all over the country, I find children talking constantly about Bebo and facebook (yes I know there is an age limit but..)

And yet experiance shows that when trying to use the internet just as a way of allowing children from a given event (eg camp) to stay in touch with both leaders and each other, between camps does not work beyond the first month or so.

But this does change to some extent once we get to teenagers.

Thanks Mike for your helpful research project which is very much in line with my own findings and experience up to a point. Unfortunately there too few Christian sites for children seriously addressing the need to be a complimentary tool for both evangelism and discipleship.

The www.hikidz.org pilot site is one attempt to work towards that, but has not got beyond the pilot stage or been able to include the wider spectum of the content that was envisaged. Despite that it is no longer updated with fresh content, it still received over 1/4 million visits last year from over 100 countries.

I'm trying to encourage both children's ministries and Internet ministries to combine efforts to address this need effectively.

I will be at the Global Children's Forum followed by the Viva Network, Cutting Edge Conference 11th - 17th July in Chicago. On one of the afternoons I will be leading a session on “International Internet strategy for children’s evangelism and discipleship” and discussing joint initiatives with other key ministries present.

If you are aware of any other iniatives or have other thoughts or findings, please do share them.

Hello,

I am a trustee of Crossed Over, a charity set up to reach out to children with the gospel. Our main website is www.blazing-glory.com.

We would like to find out as much as possible about practical online child protection, because we will allow children to contact us through the blazing glory website. Can you point us to sources of good practical helpful information.
