My first reaction was one of huge sadness and pain. So many parents of children with disabilities struggle to come through what seems to be a prolonged cycle of bereavement as they did not get the child they had hoped for. I also struggled as it s...

Did any one watch "When A Mother's Love Is Not Enough" on the BBC last night? Any Comments? Does this highlight areas of need where the church could step in? I'm starting a discussion topic on it....!

A question:

Children of other faiths tend to have a strong identity and a sense of belonging in their faith. On introducing themselves, they seem happy to say what their faith is, assuming it is part of who they are. They are happy to discuss their faith - often with knowledge and understanding.
Why is this not always the case with many kids from the Christian faith?

Book Review - Policing Innocence

A friend recommended I read this book, knowing how heavily I implement child protection!!

Whilst freely acknowledging that most child abuse occurs within family/household groups, this book is a loud wake-up call to all of us - especially to churches - not to be naive when it comes to the need for constant vigilence and prompt, appropriate and wise action when protecting children.

All the way through this book is a steely thread of righteous anger, not only aimed at paedophiles but at churches… Continue

Theology versus ‘Tweeology’

1 Peter 3:15 says:
……. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.……….

My question is: Can our children and teenagers do that

It's Hard to Read a Bible When You're Dyslexic!

Whilst at Spring Harvest I met a lovely gentleman who is dyslexic. He was concerned that there are no Bibles suitable for dyslexics (Yellow pages, one column of print instead of two, clearer font such as arial etc). Being a tenacious sort of person, he would like to research this further and see what can be done. I work with a lot of Children and Children's workers who are dyslexic and agree with him - life would be much easier with a Bible like this! If you can help - or just want to encourage… Continue

Do you think the church could be doing more to help children with special needs? I'm not just talking wheel chairs and signers, but those on the autistic spectrum too. Any thoughts?

Sorry its taken me so long to read your comment Kay.
I think the church is in a great position to support children with additional needs. Many agencies rely on short term funding so building up long term relationships can only be guaranteed by folk who are there for the long haul!
The children I have a special place in my heart for have mental health problems.

Our first ever meeting was at Longbarn! Then I met you again at SH when I was on Whizz Kids and Liz Johnson my best friend is one of your team and I have been on other teams there. This year I am doing core for 5-7s for SU as I am now working at SU as Holidays Programme Manager :) But your topic is something that is massively important to me as well since I myself lost my dad as a child and thus the whole Father thing is crucial. Plus when leading a group this summer where 4 of the kids didnt wanna know about God as he is a man/father and their own fathers have hurt them. Also in terms of getting the gospel out among the holidays and making sure it is not watered down!!

Hi Kate- Yes, i have been meaning to for a while...you know how it is.
My interest in the special needs has been through Ray of Hope amazon where the team are working with the speacial needs in the jungle. In fact I have just returned from there and there is some amazing things happening specially in the special needs area. So if you can help let me know.
Cheltenham festival did well for their first there, specially with the floods and water issue, they have a great potential.
AND Bibles suitable for dyslexics, interesting.
Take care.
