Dave Roberts Campaign group fails in bid to make early years curriculum voluntary

In a petition to the Government Open Eye said that the EYFS should be downgraded from being a requirement to being "professional guidelines". The group says that the EYFS restricts freedom of choice, creates unnecessary red tape for providers and that it could put children under too much pressure. The scoping studies, published by the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People's Services (C4EO), aim to bring together existing research and establish the key areas future research will focus on. Dave Roberts Getting Dad Involved

The Pre-school Learning Alliance has launched a series of new resources to help early years workers get fathers involved.They include a half-day workshop to help get dads involved with their children’s learning, a dedicated web page and a wall planner to highlight the importance of fathers. Although most communities now have a children's centre, they do not have a legally defined identity and are just one way in which local authorities can provide early years services. Dave Roberts Nursery Demand Outstrips Supply

Economists Laing & Buisson's report into the UK day nursery market in 2007 found demand for nursery places grew by five per cent in 2007 but growth in provision only increased by 1.5 per cent. The report also found extended schools had not led to a significant expansion in childcare as some may have expected. Dave Roberts Salvation Army builds play area in worship hall

The church, in Langley Moor and Brandon, is the first Salvation Army building in the UK to feature a purpose-built children's play area, called the Boyne Play Pit. The centre was given a £200,000 makeover and will officially open its doors on 28 June. The play area has a mining theme to keep up Langley Moor's coal mining history and a graffiti artist has decorated it with images of a miner and a miner's canary.
