'A third of all girls across the younger age groups (7-16 years) chose Cheryl Cole as the best role model for girls of their age, making her by far the most popular choice. Among 7- to 11-year-olds, no other candidate was named by more than one in ten girls overall. However, their second choice, with 8 per cent of the vote, was the Olympic swimmer Rebecca Adlington, and JK Rowling and Katie Price/Jordan also scored relatively highly with 7 per cent each. Katie Price/Jordan was a much more popula…

Dads are working long hours, struggling to balance work and family life and four in ten say they don't spend enough time with their children, according to a report published today from the Equality and Human Rights Commission which you can download here. Forty five per cent of fathers don't take the two weeks paternity leave that they're entitled to, most because they can't afford to - it's paid at a statutory rate of £123.06 a week. And forty per cent don't ask for flexible work arrangements th…

The idea is that a local primary school visits a local Church for a morning or afternoon to focus on Christmas. The aim: To provide a warm welcome to the children and staff who attend and to communicate the story…

Hundreds of secondary school children and sixth form students walked through the capital on Wednesday to raise funds for Catholic Children's Society's work with vulnerable children.

The statistic in the survey that made the biggest impression on me was the fact that 78% of teenage boys said adults had a higher opinion of teenage girls than boys. I grew up in a family of four sisters and attended an all-girls school, while for the last 20 years or so I've lived in an all male household with my husband, sons and a male lodger for a while (although we did have a female snake for a few years!) From my experience teenage boys are far more straight-forward and less complicated…

The Prime Minister's Office has told petitioners that friends looking after children informally should not have to register with Ofsted. A petition, signed by 19,890 people, expressed support for policewomen Leanne Shepherd and Lucy Jarrett, who were prevented from looking after each other's children while one of them was working because this was defined as "childcare for reward". I want Caris to help girls connect with God in their life as a teenager: to get his perspective on how loved they are, understand that life has a purpose, be inspired that they can make a difference, and understand that in God there’s hope for healing from emotional hurts. Through doing Caris I’ve also realised how important it is for Christian girls to realise that there are others out there who also love God. There’s so much peer pressure. It’s such a hard time in life to stand out from the cr…

High public spending in the UK on child welfare and education is failing to deliver results, an international comparative study warns today.
The report, by the Paris-based international Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), points out that Britain, although moderately well placed in the rankings, has relatively high rates of teenage pregnancy, drunkenness and young people not in education, employment or training (neets).
The survey, entitled Doing Better for Children, s…
