I am currently looking for lots of interesting weblinks to put in the kids section of our church website.

I have found a couple of 'girls only' devotional sites that I'd quite like to include but do not want to do so with out having a boy-specific counterpart! Having surfed and wilfed for many an hour I have not come across any such boy equivalent and this led me to reflect on the lack of Christian material aimed at boys in general.

I have to confess I have only recently started looking for any such material since coming from a family of all girls (except my dad and my cat!) and having attended a girls' grammar school for 6 years of my life, I found myself more than happy in my teenage years to click onto stuff like 'soulsista' and beat the 'Girl of God' drum loudly! But now, as a leader of a Junior Church where there are often more boys than girls but where the boys complain that things are too girly and they would never bring their mates to Junior Church, I am in desperate need of some explicit blokey faith stuff!!

I find it all so very odd...the Bible reflects a very male dominated era and therefore speaks predominantly with a male voice, we kneel before the FATHER in worship, we are saved through the sacrifice of the SON, the Bible is full of action, adventure and heroes and yet men and young boys feel alienated in our churches! What is going wrong here?

I'd love to be proved wrong :) I'd love for someone to post something in response to this that opens up a wealth of online resources that I never knew about - but after many hours of wilfing, I am worried that there may be nothing to reveal.

If anyone out there knows of any boy-specific sites/material/initiatives (similare to faithgirlz but obviously the complete opposite - i.e. without the flowers, hearts, prettiness etc.) please, please get posting those links.

If there really is very little of this stuff around, are there any webdesigners or vaguely website savvy people out there who could take on the challenge and produce a really decent 'boys only' Christian Devotional site?

Awaiting a positive response...

Ellie x

Boy friendly material
Boys learn differently to girls and read different types of material. A boy’s counterpart to Soul Sista is likely to be very different in character so don’t worry about looking for something that matches too closely. However you could try some of the following:

Web sites suitable for boys
www.bigideafun.com (the Veggie Tales people)
www.larryboy.com
These need Java & Shockwave to play the games

www.zondervan.com is an American publisher with some boy friendly stuff – check out the section Zonderkidz News & Trends, Just for Boys and www.luke252.com

www.luke252.com
No games but quite a lot of good fun activities & jokes, was my son’s verdict on this one.

Christian computer games
www.wesleyowen.com have taken over Sunrise software
http://www.wesleyowen.com/WesleyOwenSite/category/software%5Fgames%5Fgames/

My son, age 11 rates
Adventures in Odyssey and the Sword of the Spirit £19.95
Adventures in Odyssey and the Treasure of the Incas £19.95
(but he wasn’t keen on Adventures in Odyssey and the Great Escape)

i've not fully checked this out by i'm looking forward to finding the time to do so, this site looks great to me!

http://wonderzone.com/

I've just done a small research project on internet habits of 9-11 year olds. Girls definitely use the internet more broadly than boys anyway. Boys are all about Miniclip.com

also check clubpenguin. lots of kids use it (it's made by disney)
