Almost two-thirds of the 329 primaries with "perfect" results were Anglican, Roman Catholic or Jewish schools. One of the top schools in the country was also a Church of England primary as all pupils achieved the standard expected of their age group in English, maths and science. It comes despite the fact that only a third of primaries nationally are faith schools. The disclosure is likely to increase competition to get into schools with a religious character, which are already among the most popular in the country. Church leaders claim better results are testament to their religious ethos, good teaching and firm discipline.
